Hey!
So now I'm on the verge of graduation. I've studied wood science for about three and a half years now and soon it'll be over. I'm doing a final research. The topic is something similar to "Durability of bent plywood and skateboard as a sample of it".
As many know, I hope, I use Estonian birch when I make skateboards which is more fragile than Canadian maple (sugar maple). The purpose of my research is to find out how big is the gap between two of the species. Ive made some tests with special apparatus shown on pictures below.
The gap is'nt so huge as I thought. It is a matter of only 134 N. And as I found out, the board that consists only of Estonian birch outperforms a Fiberlam board.
Here are some pictures of the samples I had to cut out of used boards:
So I'll try not to wander from my research subject into the space of the ineresting Internet and stop blogging for another year.
Something totally different and not skateboarding related from the times when it is rainy and I cannot skate:
And here is the amazing winter on the North side of the Earth:

Hi Don, incidentally I'm doing flexion tests for skateboards, in case you are interested in sharing experiences, results,I'm to order. Additionally I am also doing tensile tests.
I sent a picture of my facebook page for you to see a photo of the experimental setup:

Good to know that more people are interested in this beautiful research topic, many greetings.
